One of the key things that are really important in search engine optimization (SEO) is backlinks. Generating backlinks is one of the primary reasons why most of the SEO techniques are used on the website in question. However, I don’t really quite understand how or why they have gained so much popularity. What is the secret of these backlinks? What is a backlink? Is it a link that was pointed on some site/blog/forum or is it related to link exchange? To get more quality backlinks, where can I go?

The more the merrier

. The page rank of the actual page the link is on matters as well. If you can get links on high PR websites you will increase your search engine rankings for that term.

Here's my suggestions:

* A gradual natural increase in link building is good way to link build.
* Strive to get permanent links.
* Have your links coming from total different C-class IPs sites.
* Have a varied anchor text
* Get links from good neighborhood

you can check back links by site : websitename.com and you can increase backlinks through directory submission , link exchange..

Google considers a number of factors for ranking a website in SERPs, one of the very important factors is back link. Google considers the number of back links your site has got from various genuine quality sites. ' no follow' links will not be considered.

Just search the forums, because all of the so called "secrets" have been listed over and over again. It's always the same and it "makes my a$$ twitch". Real organic backlinks grow gradually from webmasters actually finding your content useful enough to link to it for their visitors...not being asked, spammed, or pleaded with.

Back links are simply the links pointing back towards your site or blog. Google consider back links as votes to your site. More back links you get, more visible you will acquire in Google. Building links to your site would help you to get higher ranking in SERP, more traffic and more online visibility.
Now, to your question, how to get these. Building link isn't easy task. It requires lots of patience, time and research. You need to consider many factors link page rank, alexa rank, external links on that page as well to build quality back links.
