SEO is simply a component of SEM. Both are important for managing and improving your website and also require part of website promotion and search engine ranking. SEO the process follows are on-page and off-page optimization. Where as in SEM you do Seo, Paid Optimization, E-mail Marking, internet marketing, Social networking optimization, social bookmarking and many more.

It is important to note that the terms SEO and SEM should not be used interchangeably. They are two different things – but both practices can help your website to become a success, if used properly and with good judgment.

The SEO is better then SEM because from SEO we get the ranking and from SEM we get the traffic for your website but not sure. As you get the ranking on your keyword then definitely you get the quality traffic..

It all depends on what your client want: If they want quick and relevant traffics in any means, then SEM is the best option. But, if they want a long term and organic traffic, SEO is the best thing to do.

SEM technically encompases all search engine marketing - paid and organic... i.e. PPC and SEO to name a couple. However, MANY refer to PPC as SEM.

I am assuming by SEM you mean PPC. If that is they case then both PPC and SEO are very useful in promoting a site. Both have advantages and disadvantages.

For example, PPC can get you traffic instantly. But it costs. And as soon as you stop paying, the traffic dries up.

SEO on the other hand takes time. It too costs (time and/or money... development resources, etc.) but generally less than PPC for big sites. The good think about SEO is that it pays more long term dividends. It can continue bringing your site traffic... at least for some time... even after you stop doing it. But you never really want to stop.

my friend! SEO stands for search engine optimization and its related to optimizing your website's content/design for SE robot whereas SEM is a marketing technique used in SE's perspective.

SEO brings you free and organic traffic. SEM may use the SEO paid & contextural advertising, directory listing for the promotion of your site.
Both are equally important to get the traffic for your site/blog.

Both are better. SEO is the process of tailoring a website (text, titles, meta tags, alt tags etc...) so that search engines will assign a good rank to the sites for the specific search terms.each engines introducing fees for guaranteed inclusion in their induces, directories charging for reviews and the emergence of PPC listings, SEO now has an element of media buying mixed in.

The SEM is meant to be both a tutorial and a general information resource.If you frequent other prominent SEM resources you will find that this tutorial, like most search engine promotion sites, tends to go over the same ground. This is because there are no secrets to successful search engine positioning - just experience, a lot of research and tons of hard work.

Both SEO and SEM are pretty much related but it does not mean just getting a high rank in the search engines but leveraging on the search engines to get the best results possible for your site/business. A good SEO/SEM consultant can quickly decipher your site and visitor’s behavior, and can develop an action plan as to which keywords your site should be optimized on.
