Hidden content? good or bad?

I was looking to increase my pagerank
I was thinking of making text the same colour of my background and just type LOTS of keywords and content in the footer (Where no one will see it.)

my nephew knows a bit about websites and webdesign and tiny amount of seo and told me that "search bots" would pick it up as spam and instead make me loose page rank!

He said instead, make the content specific and short so that bots know it is more relevant to the clients interest thus allowing us to be higher on listings (preferably 1st or 2nd listing minimum.)

He said he isn't 100% sure because he is only learning webdesign at the moment so isnt too sure about it.

how would you suggest bumping up my page rank? I have placed links on many advertising websites, I get about 1000 views a week, which I admit is quite good, but not all of them order from me, I would ideally prefer for about 3 - 5000 hits a week minimum.

Stupid, stupid trick, one that make the intent blatently obvious and therefore is GOING to earn a penalty when somebody takes a look at it.
And of course it will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AT ALL for the completely useless toolbar PR.

Forget about the SGB "value" it will do you absolutely no good at all to be chasing it.

You seem to have picked up completely the wrong way of optimising and promotion, before you get too ingrained in the wrong ways and methods I'd suggest reading the Highranking Tips for Newbies.

If you want loads of keywords on the page just put in a tag cloud, not that that will do you any good either but you wont suffer the wraith of the search engines.

Why don't you need to hide it? especially if its quality content. Google might penalized you here. I can be considered as Keyword stuffing.

What you are talking about 'making text the same colour of my background' is considered blackhat seo techniques. This could sooner or later penalize your website from search engines. I really would'nt advice you to start in this direction.

Hidden links or content is considered as BLACK HAT METHOD and it SHOULD NOT BE PRACTICE. Besides, the very reason why we are writing contents in our website is for the sake of HUMAN USERS. So, what is the point of HIDING your CONTENT?

Follow what SEs recommended to do. You must be familiar with the black hat techniques to avoid it.

Hidden content is wrong in doing SEO. Its a technique which you must not do. Search engine will threat you as a spam. I suggest you do SEO the right way. It will takes time to increase your traffic but if you really will work for it. Hard work is worth it.
