We have been working on developing a web application and a corresponding website and we are in the process of launching it and going live sometime soon. Google will have plenty of time to index the website as we had been planning to setup a website this month itself. Before the actual release, I have been planning it so that you get some 4 months of domain age. Featuring articles and other content that is rich in keywords related to our application, we were planning to setup a website. Can anyone help me out with any suggestions to make this work?

"domain age" means nothing at all.

Had you been building links etc for a YEAR it might make some difference.

However four months just gives it enough time for SEs to index the site and list it for some queries for a couple of weeks, and then drop it from the results just in time for the launch.

You obviously have the wrong idea of what SEs are about.

What you need is to have your website live THEN put out press releases as "teasers" and do your promotion in the run up to the launch of your application.

Search engine results should NOT be a concern at this stage, that's for a future time, maybe nine or twelve months on.

You can create a website but that cannot be a launch pad of the application.
Instead, you can start an online campaign in social media websites OR can do a PPC campaign for the application and redirect the traffic on the website so that people who are interested in can have details on the website and you can also keep some way to buy it online from there.

You can commence your internet marketing campaign in networking sites. You can opt for PPC as well which will redirect the traffic to your website.
