I was looking for indexed inbound links for one of my sites at Google using 'link:www.example.com' parameter. By mistake I typed in 'links:www.example.com'. I got vastly different results. I checked hither and thither looking for an explanation and came with none. Is there an explanation for this?

because links:www.example.com is NOT a "special" search

It is a search for pages that mention "links" OR "www.example.com"

But why are you running such a useless command anyway.

The right search command there is link:www.domain.com; not links:www.domain.com

Thanks. I know that. I just typed in 'links' by accident. Got curious why link and links show vastly different results.
