Website directory structure seo friendly?

So I am going to update my site soon. I am thinking of the best site structure in terms of seo. I have 3 main categories, Virtual, Conference and Office. Which all have 3 sub categories, Services, Software and Equipment. Plus in time there will be a fair amount of content. Which is why I want several directories to keep content organised.

I was thinking of this site structure..

http://www.mysite.info/main-category/sub-category/content.php

With each sub category having its own index page. Would this be good in terms of seo?

Thanks in advance..

There are a few ways to look at this, and it really all depends on your individual situation and preference.

However, as a general guide, if you are only going to have nine pages of top level content, then I would no worry about folder structure. In fact, you are far better having something like;

mysite.info/main-category-sub-category.html

So in your case it would be

mysite.info/office-equipment.html

Then it would be up to you how these pages are linked to.

In time I will have a few hundred invidual article pages so your particular point, although it may be valid, is not relevant in my case. This is why I want to organise my content into several folders. If they are all in one folder, searching through them manually will be a nightmare, and an organised file structure will speed up loading times too..

I have since been reading that it is possible to use the .htaccess file to manipulate the url of any page so it appears as it is in the root directory. Am still trying to get my head around this at the minute though.
