After your keyword research, You have to really outrank your competitor on your keywords.So my best way is :-

I use yahoo site explorer to check from where competitor are getting links, Then i post my website link there.Also opensiteexplorer is nice tool.

Then i visit to Google and write competitor website in search box and search and post links wherever possible.

This will benefits you in two ways first it will help to outrank your competitor and secondly you will quality and in your niche backlinks.

An important part of getting rankings is assessing your competition, and trying to just go one better than them. Using Yahoo's site explorer is a great start. I usually use the SEOQuake tool bar.

I use yahoo but use a command - link:[domain dot com]

More backlinks will show up under Yahoo than G...

However, I use this more of an interest to see where they are backlinking from. I'm really big about on-page SEO...

Nichewatch.com is also a good tool to use to find exactly which competitors are there for your niche keywords

I've tried that and it didn't help me a lot I rather follow my own style of SEO and get much quality back links than my competitors.
