There is no such thing. It's a myth. Google sometimes penalize a site for various reasons and people are coming up with a myth that the site is sanboxed bla blah blah...

Sandbox effect means that the new site in Google to get good rankings, in whatever you optimize this website. In other words, a new website, can have very rich content, can be related to the high quality of the link, the website is search engine friendly, and user friendly, all optimization is very good. But in a period of time, it is difficult to Google within inside you get good rankings.

Its a metaphorical term coined by SEOs and Webmasters, not associated with Google, to explain why most new Websites have very poor rankings in Google Search Engine Results Pages..

It's a box full of sand with the Google logo on the side. It works by holding the sand into a confined space where children can play. Main uses include digging, building sand castles (when moist), or burying ones limbs.

The sandbox is a penalty of website for Google search engine. It is applicable when SEO guy doing any thing for a new domain less then 6 month better search engine ranking of highly comparative keywords after that Google send domain in sand box for some time.
because Google given more value of old domain as compared to new domain, It is just a filter of new domain, when you optimize a new domain for more competitive keywords then sand boxing is having long time.

Google contain good page ranked sites for sometime to calculate or determine that the site actually have a good traffic or not but google release the site after sometime, it is finally beneficial to the website position.

Google Sandbox is a phenomenon, the new site on the line, if Website Optimizer too often, a large number of incoming links and spam links, Google will put a site observation period, the time may last 2-6 months During this period, no matter how you optimize, do not have a good ranking, after this period, the site will have a better and stable position, but to continue to update

I has a site ( removed) fallen in Google sandbox for nearly 3 months. It disappears in search results in all keywords search, even domain name, but url. I'm stressful when waiting and don't know what should I do to save it. I have been working on other related sites in the same way, but only this site went wrong. I don't know why....

New sites get a short period (honeymoon) were they are "boosted" to see how they do and to get some traffic etc.

Well, according to me Google sand box is that the rationale of spam sites to rank so high and so fast on Google to generate revenue and therefore does not contribute to the Internet world, but only to himself. If the site has numerous inbound links to top Google thinks is suspicious enough.

Google sandbox , a simple words, is your site still on Google's tests, but did not participate in official rankings.
Google's Sandbox effect usually lasts for 6 months, within 6 months this new station should continue to improve all aspects of SEO, after sandbox, generally there will be a not bad position.

The Google Sandbox Effect is a theory used to explain why newly-registered domains or domains with frequent ownership changes rank poorly in Google Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS). In other words new websites are put into a “sandbox” or a holding area and have their search ratings on hold until they can prove worthy of ranking.
Once Google deems a website to be of quality and importance the website will be removed from the Sandbox and can potentially show up high in Google Search Engine Results Pages. Webmasters can do numerous things to improve their website with Google, but time really is the key in getting out of the Sandbox. Sandbox believers say it can take anywhere from 6 months to a year and sometimes longer before Google will promote a website out of the Sandbox.
Because Google does not acknowledge the Sandbox and it has not been clearly proven the Sandbox Effect is just a theory. Even though it is just a theory, the Sandbox is believed by the majority of webmasters. The Sandbox is believed to have come about in 2004 when changes to Google’s Algorithm made it so new websites were banned from the top of Google Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS).
It may seem that the Sandbox is unfair to newly launched websites, but Google created the Sandbox with good reasons. Google was trying to discourage spam sites from quickly reaching the top of Search Results, getting dropped off Google, creating a new site and repeatedly showing up high in Search Results. In the past, companies would put up a promotional website for a short period of time and once the promotion was over the website was gone. These promotional websites would still show up high in Google Search Engine Results even after they were removed, causing many broken links and unhappy Google searchers.
Even with the Sandbox Effect it is still possible for newly launched websites to make it to the top of Google Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS). If Google deems a new website of being worthy it can be seen in Search Engine Results immediately, but it can still take up to 6 months for the website to rank to its fullest potential. There are many ways in which web designers use to avoid the Sandbox, some of which are discussed below. But because of its uncertainty, even if all algorithm variables are followed there is still no way to guarantee new websites from being put in the Sandbox.

it is a theory about a filter that Google applies, according to which the new domains are filtered to prevent them from reaching top positions by key words. But it is only a theory.
