hi,
can i know what are the techniques that could improve the traffic for a site?
also say me , whether those same techniques will help in ranking the page higher?
which among them will have the higher priority in ranking and why?

there are many techniques you can use to improve traffic. Firstly, you could aim for getting traffic from search engines. In this case, you'll need to do the following:

Keyword Research
SEO
Link Building

You could alternatively, if you have a budget, run a PPC (pay per click) campaign with Google.

Other alternatives:

Physical advertising (newspapers, magazines etc)
Sponsoring an event
Press Releases
etc etc.

It depends also on site's niche but generally I think edgray answer covers very good the subject.

I my case (a gaming website) releasing new content (game) its a good way to get new traffic.

This is a great example of a decent traffic building strategy. It's really about tailoring your campaign to your content.

The best way to gain links and therefore decent positions in the SERPs, is to link bait.

let me say that seo for hosting is much harder than many other products, its much more competitive and the hosts have a lot of resources that can affect se results, so its tougher for beginners

Backlinking and indexing are some of the best for organic. Other great techniques are Keywords, Meta, Header Tags, Content, etc.

If you're looking for long-term results, it means having excellent, useful quality content that people need... it it's good then people will tell other people. Think of a website called "google"... they get lots of traffic... because they have something people need!

I have to say good on-page before better off-page SEO..You have to think of a good keyword and then fix all METAs in your site..That way all link building won't get wasted..Oh and patience..You need a lot of it..

One of the techniques is interlink within the post. more effective technique is to highlight relevant posts within the content of your posts. If you are writing a post that mentions something similar to what you've written before simply link to your previous post from within your article.

Social bookmarking is one of the method that will increase traffic as well as PR ( do follow sites ). Regarding priority of ranking, it depends upon the backlinks that you have got and not on a techniques.
