I am working for a website which is about 6 months old. I am generating approx 200 link per month. But site owner wants 1000 links per month. Is getting 1000 link per is good for the site? I can generate 1000 links per month but worrying for Google penalty. can Google penalize my site for getting 1000 links in one month only? How many links i need to get per month? plz suggest.

How many and how "fast" does not matter.

The simple fact is if you can get 200 a month they are going to be pretty crappy in terms of "quality" (what ever that may mean)

Chris is right. The quality of the backlinks in my opinion is much more important than the quantity. Slow and steady wins the race.

It's not necessarily harmful, Google does not have a certain number of backlinks from which it gives websites penalties, but it's true about the quality. Chances are that if you do get 1000 links per month, a lot of them will not be of the best quality.

Warn the site owner that you think it's a bad idea. If he disagrees, do what he wants, then let him deal with the consequences, if any.

That's not entirely true. Adding too many backlinks at once can penalize your site and cause it to drop in search engine rankings. I've never seen an exact number or percentage increase that will cause a penalty. But I've read this is the case on a lot of different SEO and Marketing forums.

If you get a bunch of spammy backlinks all at once, I'm pretty sure Google is not going to highly value it.

Yea be careful with the backlinks, especially now. It looks like google is putting more weight on the quality of the links.

Google Penguin almost kills my links this time, I do feel terrible for that. It is becoming more and more difficult to do link building.

getting 1000pcs links will be risky without doubt. my site only adding 300 links suddently by semi-software, google dropped my keywords from top 10 - 50+...

So, I think the best way of increasing backlinks, is to make it slowly and gradually...

I wonder how site owners would react if you took all the pronouncements about SEO and links and changed the appropriate nouns to "prospective customers".

"Where do these prospective customers come from?"

"People on social media who don't know you." "Oh."

"People who read fake posts on unrelated forums and are overwhelmed by your message." "Oooh."

"People who see your widgets advertised on blogs about cupcakes and aliens." "Oh, oh."

"Let me see, " says the customer, "these are people who don't know me, don't know what I sell, have expressed no interest in the sorts of things I sell, may have told you in the past to shove what I sell up your arse?"

"Yes, reaching new markets."

The volume 1000 links per month actually isn't too many. The question is how you build these links. Are your links natural? How are the sites reputation where you generate links to your site?

1000 links in a month? That's too risky, bro. As a responsible SEO specialist, you should be able to explain some ground rules especially in link building. WE need to educate our clients as to what is allowed and not because most of them don't really know what they're doing or thinking. You have your credibility and your neck on the line to make them learn and believe in your skills. it's not all about link building--that's grunt work.
