if one site is ranking first in google search, do we need to continue doing SEO as before? or how much should we do?

of sourse, you should continue doing SEO.
SEO is a long-term work without interruption, even if your ranking is stable in the first row, you still can not be stopped.

but after a stable rank, you can focus on update much more. links can reduce a half.

Actually the SEO can take a back seat, BUT you do need to continue the marketing and promotion, which is what links REALLY are.

of course but you can li-low your work. Focus to the other keywords that are not ranking well but it doesn't mean that you will abandoned that keyword you still need to maintain its ranking.

If you are on the top of ranking, it does not mean that you won the game! Another hundreds of websites are work hard to steal your position. So SEO is a continuous hard work.

Find ways to update your site. and if it's a good content then find ways to tell people about it.
