Let me give you the best piece of SEO advice in the world - don't expect to find a formula that will, if carried out, inevitably lead you to the top of Google. 95% of all SEO advice you will hear is crap. Make sure you use SEO simply to understand how SE's tend to rank websites and use that information only to optimise your chances of being recognised by SE's as a valuable site. From that point on it's merely a case of filling your site with content that people actually want to read.

I'll give you the best 3 things I do that seem to work best. Remember, Google loves "real" websites that are "natural" and created for the user. Keeping this in mind will help you the most on many levels. In other words, build pages for people, NOT bots.

1. Create good content with readable text in a "natural" way.
2. Have a good linking structure to benefit your visitors.
3. Make sure every page has good "readable" title tags.

As Angelosanto said, the most important thing is to create a useful site for readers. If you write a word for 1000 times on the first page, just because somebody told you so, you will never be on the first page.

Unless the book has just been released the information will likely be out of date. You are best reading information off the web.

To work on real SEO you need to be good and relevant commenter, know how and where to use keyword, how to attract your post via title. Other tip you can google it.
