Is it necessary the keyword you are targeting must be part of webpage. For example

<meta name="keywords" content="SEO" /> and targeting SEM in link building. It will get ranked?

META tags are pretty much useless for SEO, so it doesn't matter if you have them or not.

No it's not! If Meta tags are useless, then why does every site that ranks in the 1st page of Google is using Meta tags. Do you really have an idea on what you are saying?

Every site ranking on the first page of Google does not use the keyword meta tag. You may really want to ask yourself the question about knowing what you're saying.

Google has said on several occasions that they don't use the information in the keyword meta tag as a signal for how to rank a page. So Google says they don't use those tags and yet you say they're important.

You're logic is also flawed. Everyone who wins a marathon is sweating at the finish line. That doesn't mean sweating has anything to do with winning a race.

Just because a page uses the keyword meta tag doesn't mean that tag had anything to do with how the page ranked. Most of the sites you see using the meta keyword tag are either using a CMS that auto generates the tag or because the site owner hasn't bothered to understand how seo works.

Deductive reasoning:

Midnight is a cat and midnight is black. therefore all cats must be black.

It is important that your keywords must appear EXACTLY in meta title, meta description, and webpage content itself.

Seriously? Admit it... You didn't read anything other than the original questions and scrolled to the bottom... Didn't you?!

Seems Chris is alive and well, probably a bit mouldy from all the rain, but that is the least of his worries, meta description, do a good one, that is what people see, if you don't have one google will take text from the page, although they do this anyway sometimes, sometimes it could serp at number 1 and the text might be crap, so do good meta text.

You are going wrong way! By this way you decreasing your ranking in search engine. You should target you keywords which are in your domain name, title, meta tags, content. Even meta tag is not much necessary, but it have some effect in search engine point of view.

a keyword is a word or identifier that has a particular meaning to the programming language. The meaning of keywords — and, indeed, the meaning of the notion of keyword — differs widely from language to language.

If you are in the middle of working on your on page optimization tasks, using your main keywords in the title tag plus your pages contents bodies would be enough. Keyword tags are not counted any more, no matter how uniquely they appear on each page of your site. Even keyword density is the story of the past because just one single occurrence of any term on a page can be enough in most cases.

Yep, but I thought we were only talking about meta keyword tags in this thread. Did someone specifically bring up the meta description tag?
