I would like to share the information that could help you acheive some untapped source of traffic that you might not be using now.
Usually by SEO, people tend to by default optimize for Google alone, concentrating much on the back linking strategy and Google page ranks. But do not forget that there is a huge potential if you optimize your websites or blogs for yahoo as well. The main reason is that yahoo has a slightly different approach. The major differences between yahoo and Google bots ranking approach would be:
Yahoo gives more priority to on page SEO
Yahoo considers internal linking also as an factor for their “web rank”
Keyword density is a critical factor for yahoo
To sumup, if you have a good navigational structure and excellent onpage factors, then there is more chances for you to rank higher on yahoo as well and get additional traffic to your website too.
You could read a detailed article on this here
Kindly let me know your views.
Google has more priority for generating required traffic for any online business website as compare to yahoo but traffic from yahoo is good as well.
You are right, In my personal opinion for my websites 80% traffic comes from Google, but when i started optimizing for Yahoo i could see a different flow of fresh traffic that was untapped from before.
It is depend on your needs and wants because of mostly people are using google search engine. It is important to target you area whether you are targeting the google or yahoo. You can get the traffic different in both SE.
Its true, most people use Google and also most people optimize for google! So there is lot of potential for Yahoo. 20% might use yahoo..but imagine, 20% of internet searchers is a good number!!
Google is a search engine that makes heavy use of link popularity as a primary way to rank web sites. This can be especially helpful in finding good sites in response to general searches such as "cars" and "travel," because users across the web have in essence voted for good sites by linking to them.
To optimise for Google think of the quality of your whole site, how many deep links do I have, are all my pages fully optimised, does PageRank flow to my most important pages, am I building a link profile to all my important pages?
Yahoo is simply concerned with the relevancy of a single page and PageRank and domain authority play a minor role if any at all
Google gives very little weight to the domain name now, however it is still a good idea to include keywords in your domain so you can pick traffic up from Yahoo as well.
As far as I am concerned Google brought up the better quality results and so it should as it has such a huge search traffic share of between 60 – 65%.
very useful post indeed! Actually i don't have any idea that there are couple of differences between SEO techniques in Yahoo and Google. I thought they just have the same effect.

Thanks for the share! I also read the origional article too. I never knew that yahoo and google had so many differents in ranking. I always looked at how i was doing on google but never on yahoo.
Thanks, had been theorizing on the differences but this makes it much more understandable. However, it is rare I get any quality traffic from yahoo. Some from bing maybe, I dunno that's just my feelings.
Thank you for the great explanation. Generally I dont do any optimization for Yahoo or Bing. I do optimize for Google. When I get top rank in Google, I get similar ranking in Yahoo and Bing.
Comparison of Google SEO vs. Yahoo SEO I'm certain webmasters have been debating Google vs. Yahoo SEO for some time now. It seems - at least to me anyways - that good positions on Yahoo usually net good positions on MSN as well. So one would think their ranking algorithms are somewhat similar.
I would say that Google is focusing more on the optimization of pages, such as backlinks, while Yahoo is more focused on optimizing pages, and keyword density,H1 Tages etc.
