Hey guys

I got into a discussion about SEO, with another beginner SEO dude. And he was telling about how Flash isnt really good for SEO.

I thought, that even if we did use specific elements of Flash on a website, then couldnt we define in the ROBOTS.TXT file to ignore the flash related stuff?

Also we didnt really understand why flash is bad for SEO. the only thing we were coming up with is that probably the crawlers dont understand it and cant index it. Is that it?

If the site is only made in flash google can not read all . I dont't have much experience, but I know google works with adobe to improve this part

All "Flash " pages are only "bad" for search engines when the text is embedded in the flash file.

i think it has been discussed here before..
flash site don't usually get favored by search engines.

I think its because flash make the site slower, that would be the reason...

Not all users have privilege of accessing high internet speed. Flash websites are usually little slow when browsing via slower internet connections.

Flash is a no-no! This will just give your web pages a slow loading time which is not preferable for your visitors.

site will take more time to load..that's why flash sites are a complete no in favor of seo...

Flash is looked down upon due to a variety of reasons.
1. Makes your site sluggish. (Double Jeopardy if you have loads of Apple Fanboys coming to your site.)
2. Google doesn't crawl Flash very well.
3. If your viewers are on slow internet connections, you are going to get cursed big time.
So to avoid all that, use Flash only when you have no other options. For all I know, HTML 5 is far better for most common needs.

Flash websites are not search engine friendly, and cannot achieve good rankings as well, as there will be no links, content available for bots to crawl.

well google crawler can read flash but they are not willing to index such websites for higher search engine ranking. flash,java script, tables etc are not recommended by google.

The main problem of having a Flash website in terms of SEO is the site visibility. It has disadvantages and some of them are more on none visible text content, so Google will not be able to cache and index links, anchor text, and page name value.

Google, Yahoo and other major search engines have gotten much better at indexing flash sites. Not perfect, but better. There are some important factors to keep in mind:

Use external XML or text files. XML offers search engines a structured and semantic format for indexing site content. And it makes it easier to implement multi-language versions of an application. By keeping your content layer separate from your presentation layer you’ll have a better overall application.

Comparatively flash sites sometime takes too long to get loaded so from the SEO point of view flash is less recommended and do not use it unless necessary, instead you can use pictures if possible (update/edit in photoshop or corel draw). As we can say that end user may get bore as the site takes too long to load and may divert to other site.

Yes it is bad but using too much flashy stuff would be bad, for advancing look of your site,if you are using a little then it is ok.

Flash have bad affect on SEO as crawler skip it. So avoid using it too much.

Crawler and Google can read flash, but are not willing to websites that index highest ranking in the search engines. flash, java script, tables, etc. are not recommended by Google. Flash comparison sites at any time takes too long to load so from the viewpoint of flash SEO is less desirable and do not use it unless necessary, instead you can use images if possible.
