Titles as images instead of H1

Hey guys
I'm working on a project where our designer insists on using images for the content page titles (i.e "About us", "Recent Events" etc).

Even though it wouldn't matter for the visitors, I can't help but think that having text titles with h1 and h2 tags would make it appear as if the site has better structure for visitors according to bots.

What I'm wondering is if it would matter to have non-keyword titles such as the ones mentioned as images instead of texts? Does it make a difference if I enclose the img in <h1> tags? Alternatively I could write a short summary of the page in the alt tag of the img.

Thanks

would be better if you could use the title as text .. But if you choose to put an image make sure to use the alt attribute

alt ATTRIBUTE

Once you start doing things deliberately for search engines you are going to get it wrong.

Agree with Chris. But the chances of screwing up the styling for your website might go up with the use of images for the navigation. (What with the iPads, Android Pads, mini laptops and what not)

Use really simple styles for the navigation. It's one area that you don't want to screw up.

Why do want to add image in the title of content pages ? It's a negative factor for seo, always use text instead of images for titles- for better prospect, try to keep things as simple as possible.

alt attribute could be best solution, even images are not recommended for such important places, these are good positions for putting keywords (title, bold and anchor text)

Hi,

I would suggest you to use H1 for headings instead of Image.

But, if you really intend to use image for heading then make sure you atleast assign the ALT attribute to the Image.

Can surely be effective, but have seen most people saying that Google search engine gives more preference to the the tittle h1 tag apart than the image tag you are talking off...... Do keep this in mind......

It would be better if you use H1 & H2 tags. Search engine gives some improtance to text title. If you use image as title, do not forget to use Alt tag.

This is why we can insert an alt attribute on images to describe or make s short summary of what's within the picture.

What is the reason your designer has said to use images for titles?

designers just want to design stuff. Users don't really care as long as its very readable. Maybe you can find a way to do both, search engines like title tags but if your header is an image its not going to kill you . I used to always design graphics for headers and as I got more seo knowledgeable I decided to give up my designing nature and with something that worked better, form follows function.
