I currently use a website building tool provided by my host.I need more functionality (drop down menus, videos, blogs etc) so am thinking of moving to Joomla/Wordpress.

Can anyone tell me, is using a CMS such as Joomla/Wordpress more search engine friendly than other ways?

In other words, can the medium which you use to create a site (ie: web editor, CMS etc) affect SEO?

I also read something about putting a Wordpress blog in a Joomla site which would be really good for SEO.

Any thoughts?

Both are really good for SEO. Use Wordpress if you may. It is one of the most flexible and one of the most user friendly CMS platforms out there.

1) I prefer wordpress will be more seo friendly then a Joomla website, all the wordpress websites are having good results in google.
2) WordPress is also tremendously easy to administer. If you want to run drupal or Joomla, you’re going to need a higher skill level and be more involved.

yes word press is very useful for seo. Its skin texture and functions direct a search engine during the posts, pages, as well as categories to help the search engine creep your site and collect the information it wants to incorporate your site in its record.

Yep, the key point is what kind of website you want to build, a company website? a personal blog or something else? But wordpress is a good recommendation, I must say.

Having used BOTH WordPress and Joomla for building websites - I can honestly say that they are both really good applications.
Something you are going to have to consider is the learning curve of running a CMS.

Joomla *IS* more complicated but once you learn how to use it properly, it is a great tool to have. I believe you can do MORE with Joomla but the time it takes to learn how to use it effectively is 3 times that of using WordPress.

WordPress seems to have a larger following because it is slightly easier to use than Joomla. However, as I am writing this comment, WordPress doesn't seem to have any community based plugins like Joomla has.

Which is Better For:
Blogging = WordPress (Although I am quite fond of EasyBlog in Joomla)
Content Management by Client = Joomla!
Ease of Upgrading = WordPress
Community Building = Joomla
Pre-built Templates = BOTH
Add-Ons/Plug-ins = Joomla has a slight edge

Once again, I'm more biased towards Joomla! since I have been using it for the past few years so take what I say with a grain of salt!

I'm not disagreeing with anyone but I have a few joomla websites out there and have had no problems in getting them to the top of google for certain keywords. They only thing to look out for is that the template you choose is html/xhtml and css valid this will affect your position
