Hi,
I have a site that represents an armored cars company.
Because the word armored is spelled armoured out side the US and Canada,
I created a php variable that replace all the appearances of the word armored and based on ip of the visitor, if it is outside north america it will display the string 'armoured' and if it is in US or Canada it displays 'armored'.
I was wandering how does this affect the SEO if I am targeting both keywords
'armoured cars' and 'armored cars'?
could Google mistake it as a black hat SEO?

Google are based in the US.

no i dont think so.
however, most of the time, search engines have different results for words with different spelling.
You can seo your site using the word "armoured" but most people might be using the "armored" which means you might be receiving less traffic because of your search term.

So whats the best way to optimize the site?
If google indexes it only as it is being spelled in the US. people who search for the term outside the US wont find it. right?
so I how can I get the other spelling optimized?

Use both spellings on the pages.

Google has no real problem recognizing the variations in spelling. Try a search for "colors" or "colours" and see how the results vary depending on what Google data center you are assigned. Where it makes sense use both spellings such as "Armored Cars | Armoured Cars" in the page title and perhaps in a few "alt" attributes. It will save you a lot of trouble in trying to cater specifically to each possible variation in spelling.

No, actually it's nice and user-friendly. Use all possible spellings, of course, "armored" comes first.
