Does redirection affects SEO?

I have a blog powered by wordpress, and I want to post categories to the main menu, as pages.

I thought about using a redirection plugin, like Redirection; you can find it on wordpress.org (sorry, not allowed to post links). This way, I though about creating pages with the same names as the categories, and do a redirection from each page to the category it represents.

Will this affect the SEO optimization or how google "sees" me?
Thanks!

You don't have to redirect. At your navigation (menu, so to speak), put the links to the categories with appropriate anchor text.

I've had SEOMOZ tools tell me that categories have duplicate content. (It's quite obvious. You'd have the same post assigned to different categories. ) But I didn't find any issues at the Google index.

P.s: If you know php language, you can find much more ways to fix wordpress problems, but if you don't know it much, like me, plugins will be good choice.

Nope!

Once a page is redirected with a 301 response it ceases to exist!

I agree with Sierra Charlie. Seomoz tool showed a lot of problems with my site including duplicate content that I did not know I had.

And do you know that the SEOmoz tool is actually "accurate"?

And of course there is the simple fact that "duplicate content" is not really a major problem for any website.

How does a redirect confuse users?

I suppose that means that they click om one URL and get to another one they haven't expected.
So far I do not agree with that.
I typed webmaster-talk.com and was redirected to tycoontalk.freelancer.com and there is no confusion for me at all

Do NOT class yourself along with the millions of average users, the vast majority of Search users are not aware of what a URL is never mind notice they are on a different one.

For the most part as long as they are on a page that matches their query they don't care about URLs.

You are right. I just wanted to draw attention on the cases like I have with this forum. I do not believe that is rare for the kind of sites like this.

It's not really been a secret for the past three months.

I knew that. But for me it is still easier to type in webmaster-talk.com.
No problem

My point precisely, you type in what you know, and end up where you want to be.

The physical location does not really matter to anyone.
