What do you mean by positive and negative on page /off page SEO factors?
I think we should include URL optimization,content optimization,variation of keyword format,Using different keywords for different pages and meta tag optimization except meta keyword tag,which is irrelevant now a days.

What do you mean by "only when linked"? In newbie speak please...I've never heard of this.

Chris, re the point about alt text only being relevant if the image is used as a link - is that so? I thought alt text of itself could be useful.

I've had some tests running for EIGHT years now with title attributes of links and images, no results EVER in ANY search engine

alt attribute of a linked image, Google uses it as anchor text to weigh towards the target page.
Yahoo uses it as onpage text
Bing not at all.

alt attribute of unlinked image nothing in Bing or Yahoo Google uses it a body content.

AND another eight year old test page. with a word in the URL and ONLY in the url.

There has been nothing at all EVER in ANY search engines from day one to now.

So when you say "linked image" what do you mean? Where is it linked to or from? How do i do this? Remember, I'm still a newbie.

"Linked image" as in an image element that is "wrapped" by an anchor element, aka an "image link"

Alt Tag makes the search engine spiders recognize the images so add a relevant alternate name for your images.They are displayed on the search engine result pages instead of the file names.
