Is it necessary to submit articles and contents to these sites to get indexed by search engines?

The only purpose I can see in submitting to these "content farms" as Google now says they are - is to drive a little bit of referral traffic to your site. That's about it.

From my experience it is useless to spend time on article submission sites.
Even Google do now value that positively anymore your content on other sites.
As somebody above mentioned keep your content on your site. That's the best.

It’s a resounding NO to both your questions!
Article marketing has lost much of its potency post the Panda update.

Why don’t you try other facets of article writing like blogging, blog posting etc? Guest posting has brought me impressive visibility... I use a tool named ‘Keyword Country’ to pin-point those blogs that have huge fan following and large email lists.

If you own an article site, then do not go for submitting articles on higher ranked article sites. This will decrease your traffic.

Yes. Article submission will really helpful to get the traffic to the website. I would suggest you to select top most and fast approval article directories and submit. Keep your article unique and fresh. Do not keep more number of links. Follow proper guidelines before submitting.
