Yes.
One such site is Google, providing all the free resources you could ever need:
http://www.google.com
Try to find the real SEO experts that actually know what they are talking about.

Naaah! not "experts"
Now finding someone who knows what they are talking about certainly. Those are the ones who DON'T declare themselves as SEO "expert".
A book I would suggest buying and reading would be "Marketing in the age of Google" by ex Googler Vanessa Fox.
and read the this and Google PDF SEO starter guide linked to.

While they may not declare themselves experts, they are still experts. I'm talking the real EXPERTS, like I stated. Real experts don't declare themselves as such, but rather by their peers, customers, clients, what have you, etc...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expert

An expert is someone widely recognized as a reliable source of technique or skill whose faculty for judging or deciding rightly, justly, or wisely is accorded authority and status by their peers or the public in a specific well-distinguished domain.

True but in the Search world the real experts don't declare it at every occasion.

The best thing to do is ask specific questions on this forum, take the answers, test them, and work from there. SEO can be a real trial and error process.
Read up, dive in and pay attention to the results.

There's plenty of seo tutorials online. You won't find everything on one site or page though.
One word of caution about getting your seo information from Google. Google's tutorials are what they want you to do, not what actually works. Some of the things Google would suggest you do will only ensure your competition outranks you.
Yes read the information Google provides, but take it with a grain of salt.
I think the Beginner's Guide to SEO from SEOmoz is good. It's been awhile since I read it and I probably disagree with some of what's in it, but overall it's a good intro read.

After reading the basics, just get to work and experiment on your site,Forum is the best place for catching up with "experts" and seeking their opinion.I do the same..

Trouble is, forums are full of "experts" while being short in the "people who know what they are doing" department.

Sad, but true. To me though that doesn't mean the subject is pointless, but rather most of the people speaking about the subject are pointless.

Sad but true Ah yes.
And maybe one day the signal will drown out the noise and the message will be heard throughout the lands.

I won't be holding my breath till that day arrives. Sadly there's far more noise than signal. In the seo world of course and not in the music of certain bands.

Hi there
I agree avoid anyone who declares themself an expert, its an impossible field to be an expert in anyway, but optimising your site is one small factor of getting sites ranked anyhow.

Learning SEO is a slow and tedious process. It is something like magic which you learn on your own.
The best way to learn SEO is via online tutorial, free resources and SEO forums.
I found a lot info about SEO here www.seomoz.org. Plus they provide a great and free tools for SEO.
Hope this will help you!!
