I have gone through lots of seo from books to movies to internet searches and have never quite figured this out. Please see if you can answer this million dollar question, maybe it is simpler than i think.

Scenario
I own a hotel in the middle of new york city, (haha I wish), the hotel is called "the rat trap" I would like to use the keyword of Accommodation.

I also own a hotel in Brooklyn called "the dog" and I would also like to target the keyword accommodation.

So a person in New york city types into google accommodation, they should see "the rat trap" number 1 in a perfect world.

If a person in Brooklyn types in the same search of accommodation, will it show my hotel or a hotel in Brooklyn they should see "the dog" in a perfect world

if a person in china types in accommodation they should see the hotels in their area.
if a person in China types in accommodation new york city, they should see "the rat trap"

Am I mad, or is this correct, if so how does google distinguish between 2 cities like new york and brooklyn, should the keyword i target be accommodation new york, or just accommodation.

If it is "accommodation new york", then would the hotels restaurant be "restaurant new york" and the shop in the hotels keyword would be shop new york, so every keyword has new york after it.

I know it sounds silly but I never really figured out a direct answer to this.

The RIGHT way to use "keywords" is NATURALLY!

Would you say "Restaraunt New York" or "accomodation Brooklyn"? No? well neither would your users.

I'm not sure I understand your question. If your site is ranking for a term like "Hotels New York," or "Hotels Brooklyn," it makes no difference where the searcher is located.

If there's a New York or Brooklyn located in China, then it may affect the results of a person searching from China. But Google doesn't geo-target search results for searchers from a specific city.

That sort of answers my question, so if I target the keyword accommodation then I am competing for page placement with the entire world and even if I was first position for that keyword, I might only get a larger bounce rate because a person in china is probably not looking for accommodation within my area, in most cases.
Therefore should I not target accommodation, but rather accommodation new york.

If you rank for "accomodation New York" then you will rank for it no matter where the searcher is (in North America). And I can assure that ranking for "accomodation" will bring you no targeted traffic.

And I don't understand how bounce rate ties into this.

Don't worry about talkupation...it's meaningless.

Well google displayed only sites which optimized for particular keywords like if any one type "accommodation for new york" then google displayed the sites which have these keywords apart from the region or place of the user.Google can show the local business also depend upon the countries.Like google has different url for UK,different for Australia,India,e.t.c.Google.co.uk,google.co.in. But if user uses google.com then it shows the data from all over the world.

When building your ad you may want to keep the following in mind:

• Think beyond your company or competitors name as the keywords

• Listen to how people actually talk and use those words

• Use the suggestion tools provided—Google and Yahoo both have keyword generators that will help you find the right words for your ad

• Be unique, don't use all the same search terms as your competitors

• Broad search terms aren't always useful, if you can refine yours do it

• Think of common misspellings—after all, not everyone's perfect

• Don't keep repeating terms, you won't fool the search engines

I think you can use Google Adwords tool and choose low competitions high search volume keywords.
