Hi guys

I have been looking at some other publishers for adding adverts to my website came across clicksor and bid advertiser who both have a noscript tag in their code.

Anyone any ideas what this is and what it does ? does it actually pass a link to the site within this tag ? As its outside the Javascript, or does it just get ignored by search engines ?

< noscript><a href="http://www.yesadvertising">affiliate marketing</a></noscript>

ive taken the .com out of the live link btw to stop

Woc

The noscript tag is for providing alternative information for javascript disabled useragents.

So SEs "see" the link.

Yeah as Chris has mentioned it simply means that if JS is not running then you would see the code inside those tags. ( As the browser / script cant read the javascript )

I use it ALL the time on remote scripts to insure that Google,Bing, etc see the links even though JS is not running.

Also Search engines do see the link, they also see it as a normal back link like any other.

You can use it to replace contextual ads with static adverts should you so wish.

But usually you would implement noscript elements to put navigation in place when you have a javascript CREATED navigation, that way the pages can still be accessible.

You should also use a noscript element to provide alternative content for AJAX displayed content.

But it is neither "bad" or "good" it is simply an element that is there for a reason which, like many elements can be used for legitimate or nefarious purposes.

Using it to put a bunch of links in specifically for SEs is a "bad" reason, and here we are talking many hundreds or thousands of links not a couple of dozen, but when used to supply an alternative route around the pages would be a "good" reason.

Like most SE spam, it is the INTENT that is spammy not the action.

Well javascripts or other scripting languages are not search engines friendly so any thing kept inside script tag are treated as simple text and can be ignored by the search engines.Specially if you uses javascript menu in your sites. It is highly recommended to use the noscript tag, as opposed to javascript based menus. The reason is that javascript based menus are not spiderable and all the links in them will be ignored as page text. The solution to this problem is to put all menu item links in the noscript tag.

Actually links embedded in the scripts are read and can be used by SEs

It is when links and text and links are WRITTEN to the page (document.write) or inserted into the DOM that cannot be seen by js disable UAs
