In my opinion if your website is currently ranked number 10 on Google searches, then there is a possibility of becoming number one in the lists and more popular as well. What about you guys?

Sure - you have the possibility to get to #1 - but it really depends on a lot of things.

Hire a website firm? Not sure. If you wanna burn your money - then go ahead. A lot of SEO firms I know of practice blackhatting.

Could you learn SEO and experiment w/ it?

You should probably hire a real SEO once you realise that "ranking" is not actually the main purpose of optmisation.

The number #1 place is not guaranteed however a top 10 ranking can be targeted. But as chris said , top 10 ranking is only just one of the things a proper seo firm shall do .

Rankings should NOT be the "goal" of SEO!

Search engine referrals should simply just "happen" as a bonus result to your promotional and marketing efforts.

When you are "link building" you are actually marketing your pages to the visitors of those pages by advertising their presence.

If the SEs also find those links "valuable" that's a win-win situation, but link building becomes MUCH easier when you take the search engines out of the process.

its not all about ranking, you should consider traffic that leads to conversion...hirng SEO people depends on you, if you think can do it why hire?? though hiring doesnt necessary mean success yet, you must also be careful in choosing who you work with..some just make promises so be wise

Tip: Hire the real ones. How to know the best? More often than not, they won't say they are experts.

Being on number 1 means, more people will notice your website. More traffic and may be more conversion rate.

Well, May be you should learn and try a little SEO by yourself. You will need SEO to compete against your competitor in search engines.

NO one can guarantee #1 rank on Google. If you are really considering hiring SEO workers, the best time is during the design and planning stage to make sure that your site is seo-friendly from the bottom up. Just be careful because many SEO workers and company can damage your reputation.
