Why are some of my pages indexed without www on the domain name and others are?

I rather for all my pages be indexed as www. domain name . com - how do I correct this?

It really doesn't matter how they're indexed, but if it really bothers you. I've heard you can use the cannoical tag to correct this.

Go into Google Webmaster Tools, and verify the version of your domains without the www, just the same as you did when you verified the www version. You will then have the www version, and the non www version both listed in your Google Webmaster Tools account.

Then go into "site configuration" ->"settings" and pick the "preferred domain" you can pick the www, non www, or no preference. It sounds to me like you should pick the www version.

It will take Google Webmaster Tools about 3 or 4 weeks to update your settings, then all of your backlinks, google search results, etc... should make sense.

I'm just curious, are you saying that some pages on the same domain are indexed with www and some are not?

Ok I think I get it, is your home page indexed with the www, and your interior pages /posts are not? This is how mine were. Yes...no...

You need to be consistent use a permanent redirect to your prefered version.

That is correct. My index page was indexed w/ www but most of my internal pages were not.

I'll follow up on your answer as well as Chris' - thanks guys.

I know it's weird, and you might not have to do it for every domain. But just to be sure, you should have the www and non www version both registered (and verified) in Google Webmaster Tools. Then set the preferred domain to your preferred setting.

Before I figured this out, I had a bunch of backlinks that were screwed up (according to GWT) and it was driving me crazy.

And if your backlinks appear to be pointing to the wrong version, just give it about a month...or more maybe. Yeah...weird **** huh???
