I was reading an article and it explained how changing meta descriptions can potentially increase SERP CTRs and therefore steal traffic that would previously have clicked on a result that ranked higher than yours.

This highlights the importance of carefully crafted meta description text and potentially even split testing different variations.

Have you guys experienced this or seen this happen where changing meta description has seen a dramatic change in traffic from a particular keyword without moving in rankings?

Good heavens, is this the first time you have heard about search optimising????

As I have OFTEN posted being No1 isn't the be all and end all, it's getting the click through and conversion that matters

Wrong!

The meta description element (and title element) are your FIRST opportunity to convert the searcher, if your title and meta description are well written, you have a better chance of getting the click-through than "keyworded" title and meta description.

Since when is out-optimizing the competition "stealing"? Sounds like a sales pitch!
