I'm considering starting an e-commerce service provider type business. Can a site created using say "Intuits Website creator" or "Web Easy Pro" be as effective at being found by the major search engines as a custom site created from scratch ?

What you really want to do is to follow these guidelines after building the website, ( either with the "website builder" or from "scratch" )

Why??

You won't get any different answers (other than ones that are wrong)

I would suggest you to create your website using any of the popular Open source CMS (Drupal, Joomla, MODx, Magento, Typo3 or even WordPress). This will save you a lot of time and money. There are plenty of 3rd party extensions and modules for those CMS
