Within the SEO space when terms like "backlinks" or "link bulding" are thrown around a lot of different ideas come to mind for different people.
For a less experienced SEO they will think of mass article submission, social bookmarking, forum posting, blog commenting, link wheels, link farms etc
For a more experienced professional SEO link buidling refers to careful relationship building with others to build links from relevant sites and the creation of amazing content that attracts links. This doesn't mean all of the strategies in the paragraph above are "bad" strategies. An experienced SEO will just approach them from a very different perspective.
I think the biggest different is that a less experienced SEO is all about the quantity while a more experienced SEO is much more concerned about the quality and longevity of links and relationships built.
With all this being said I wanted to ask the question - What qualities/characteristics make good link builders?
I have a few of my thoughts -
* Very Persistent - Link builders need to be very persistent and never give up. They must trawl the internet for relevant sites that could link to them and contact the webmasters with a strong proposal. A lot of the time webmasters never get back to you so persistence is very important.
* Good understanding of Social Networks - Link building has a lot to do with relationship building with different webmaster and authorities within your industry/niche. A good link builder will have a good understanding of how to use social networks to build strong relationships. This includes twitter, facebook, linkedin, quora and basically any other internet service that allows social interaction.
Would love to hear your ideas....
