I have a new webmaster and web development blog called SilentGun and I was looking for advice on Do's and Don'ts of search engine optimisation for webmaster related blogs.
What are your personal experiences ? What techniques have you used in the past which were succesful ?
Thanks in advance for all your comments and suggestions.
Best Regards,

The are only two, one is a do the other is a don't.
The do is:
Do build a great website with useful and interesting content that is focussed on the USERS.
The don't is:
Do NOT use methods that go against the SE guidlines.

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds
Thought for today:- Is SEO the only industry where all the cowboys are Indians?

Well said as usual.
You really have to put yourself in the mindset of your visitors. What are they looking for? Once you figure that out - write what they are searching for. Put out the best content as possible.
Also, look at your competitor's content - how much more can you give your visitors that is more informative where they can walk away from your site feeling satisfied.
What I'm trying to say is to put yourself in the visitor's shoes. I know it sounds more like a cliche - but it's so true.

Agree with the previous comments, I'd just add doing some keyword research based around the article you're going to write, use the popular keywords in your URL's, Title, Page headings etc...
Definatly try to be as relevant and specific in your titles and keywords as possible. You want Google to send the right people to you looking for exactly what you are offering.
The SEO side is easy, the publicity will be harder, given there's plenty of established competition. As already said, go for quality content that is aimed at your target readers and don't pad out with naff and oft-repeated information. Don't be scared to link to "competitors" - for example do a review of sites which have info on a particular topic that you perhaps don't feel comfortable bloggin on - good way to build up relationships whilst still providing a service to your readers.
