I've heard so much about Link bait, they said that it will creates links and it reaches more people thus increasing your traffic and potential sales; but I am wondering what is the differences between back link and link bait and does anyone here has tried this marketing strategy and how was the result?

I actually had the wrong perception of what link bait is before and I interpreted it as "the" backlink itself.

But after searching and reading, it was actually sort-of-like that in a sense(because in the end you'll gain a backlink in the site linking to you) since link-baiting is making a content that is worth linking to by other sites either because it's very informative, unique and up to date or just outright interesting to order a webmaster to talk about it or the average person to share/tweet it. There are plenty of other factors too as to how would one would define a link-bait contents, but that pretty much is my view of it.

Ok, if no one else will be constructive on here, I will... maybe I'll start a trend. So, link bait is, as you might have guessed, a way that you attract others to link to your page, article, blog, or whatever.

Here's a great example. Let's say that I sell skateboarding equipment. So, I decide to get some link bait going so I can get some backlinks to my home page. Well, on the home page, I place a viral video of a dude skating up a half-pipe. He's in the air and he suddenly loses grip of the skateboard. He's coming down and about to hit the ground. The video ends and tells people to share with their friends to find out what happens on a certain date. You give them a code to place on their website, facebook account, etc: etc: The link that points back to you is the desired end result. You could put some anchor text in the code that you give the visitor. This is just an example. I dare others to come up with something more creative...maybe a humorous link bait...

Link baiting is a way of attracting backlinks.
For example, writing a controversial article or blog post, could irritate people enough that they want to write about you and thus link to you.

Link bait as I use the term means, writing quality content that COULD go viral. Then distributing your unique and worthwhile content through various online networks, social media etc, and hoping that it will be found and users will interact and repost this info. Garnering a lot more backlinks and inbound structures from all of the user interest and conversations that you have initiated with that piece of content.

Matt Cutts defines link bait as anything "interesting enough to catch people's attention". Link bait can be an extremely powerful form of marketing as it is viral in nature. The content for link baiting would be a text, image, audio or video clip and it interesting enough to catch the people’s attention.

Link bait is unique and interesting content that other sites will naturally want to link to. The big advantage is that you do not have to ask or beg for links, but just set the hook and let it do its job. One way to create link bait is to get the job and phrases that will become popular in the future. As I sit here writing this article, the term "link bait" might be a good target if you're in the search engine marketing industry.

Back links are like a fishing line. Link bait is like fresh shrimp. Any questions?
