I have purchased a site that is ranking ok for certain terms, not first page however.

Most of the content on the site is copied directly from ezinearticles, I am now adding unique articles.

Will it affect my ranking for my new articles if I leave the copied content on the site?

uhhh - yeah....

take the copied junk down from your website. Create a very unique page and don't just do a couple hundred words. I usually put 800 words or more on a single page. Google does not want "thin content". That's part of what Panda was all about...

It affect defiantly. google has mention clearly on there Panda update (google algorithm update came on last year).they were strictly in duplicate content so remove them

The answer is YES, you have to remove the duplicate content to avoid the site being thrown out of google results.

As everyone has made it clear, Taking down the copied articles can only help you. By replacing them with unique original content and by posting that content regularly you will improve your rankings. Along with many other strategies you can use to help with rankings.

yes you can delete all copied content one by one but also add fresh content day by day to increase website popularity

It would be best to remove it esp because your site was not the primary source of this content so it looks to search engines that you scraped it from ezine.

If you love the article so much and want to keep it on your site - do a quality rewrite. Change title and headings completely. Rewrite the summary entirely. Change the body at least a little bit.

Better yet, write something new but similar to that ezine article.

Google will pay attention to you, You should not copy all. For example you can change the article title.
