What is dofollow?

Here's a little experiment. Anyone who knows anything about SEO, and really knows it, realizes there is no such thing as dofollow anything, nor would it be a major factor in SEO strategy if it did.
But what we're going to do here is a demonstration of why certain keywords like "dofollow" should be filtered. I guarantee that despite the wording of this post, this thread will be filled with idiotic one-line posts from "experts" trying to tell us all about this marvelous nonexistent attribute. Several today, pages long in a week.
Perhaps when all the spam is filtered people might be able to see some legitimate SEO strategies.

Well a dofollow would indicate that the back link giver would be intentionally linking to benefit the website they're sharing. A "dofollow"or something in the similar, would show no significant difference in good quality links and junk spam links if their attribute meant/provided the same thing.
It's completely pointless in having a "dofollow" link. A nofollow can be of use (e.g. a craigslist or wikipedia link, why promote spam and lower the quality websites that deserve back links?)
Of course this is talking about links and not optimization

The very concept of "dofollow" is erroneous - there is no way to MAKE a SE crawl a link; even making a link nofollow doesn't guarantee it won't be crawled/indexed.
Dofollow is a term mostly used by hacks who think that calling their links by that term will give some value to their garbage that otherwise isn't there. It's a misconception that's been exploited by those same hacks, hence it's the only time you see the term, which is why it's a term that should be filtered for premoderation.
But you're right, NONE of it has anything to do with optimization. Getting rid of the fluff, like sending dofollow, scraper and spinner straight to premod would get rid of a lot of the crap we're seeing here.

dofollow is good but only if linking to page of higher PR or .edu or .gov site
There is rel=noindex also, that is used on pages which are not homepage.
Just teasing

Hi i am ballinderry,If you’ve been doing any kind of reading aboutlink building, then you’ve probably seen people mentioning “nofollow” and “dofollow” links. These are very important terms to understand when you are trying to build great links back to your site in order to increase your search engine rankings. But, to the person who is new to all of this, it may be kind of confusing. I am going to help break it down for you.

Well I'm sure that Ivan Pavlov would be happy with the reaction to this thread from you two.
It definitely proves the existence of what is termed as "Classical Conditioning".

This was a rather Pavlovian experiment, wasn't it? But they prove my point. Filter "dofollow" for premoderation already!

Do Follow = Yes please give credit to the following website
Basically, a nofollow link is almost like not having a link at all. However, having some amount of nofollow links does make your overall campaign seem more natural.
