Social links from Twitter, Facebook and Google + are now becoming a good medium for advertising our website or products. We can promote and boost our website traffic if we use these networking platforms effectively. In other words we can say that social links are meant for advertising and not for optimizing.
As far as link benefit is concerned, social media platforms do not add value. However, there has been a discussion that Bing in future may consider Twitter & Facebook Links and Google may consider links from Google Plus pages. However, it is too early to believe this. Since these platforms are not moderated, marketers tend to exploit them and hence search engines may strike off links when evaluating a website.
