I have a local service site that I have been working on, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on local SEO. I rank on the first page of my search terms for my key cities, but I am wondering what more I can do. I have done tons of citations (still waiting for google places card to show up). I participate in a lot of forums for my industry and have sig in those. I do a small bit of article stuff but not much.

Should I use my website signature in forums like this?
Should I start buying permanent blogroll links?

Forget forum sigs - especially in forums like this one.

Just make sure each appropriatye page is in every applicable directory - from local portals to national such as Yellow Pages. Get them into trade directories as well.

Do question your search terms - you don't say how you arrived at whatever terms you use.

No and no.

Your forum signature will do absolutely nothing in terms of Search Engine Optimization. It'll promote your site and that's about it.

Do not buy blogroll links. Do you really think this is how Google determines the good sites from the bad on the results page? Does spamming really make your site quality? I don't think that's what you want.

I'm also a little confused, you shouldn't need some huge SEO campaign for a local site. If the market is niche, then there really shouldn't be too much competition.

sorry should have been more clear, my busniess is carpet cleaning and my search terms would be "carpet cleaning mycity" and "mycity carpet cleaning" I suppose there are some variations, but not much I rank like number one for "tile and grout cleaning my city"

Should i get phone numbers in each landing city so I can enter in different directories or can I do directories for each city with the same number?

I am ranking like between position 5-9 for my landing cities. I would just like to be organically position 1 or 2.

Make sure you're logged out of your google account when checking your position in SERPs - this way you'll get the results Google users are likely to see as well.

Do you rank in google places or in general results? or both?

In your local cities, if you are popular enough that internet users in those areas recognize you, then there is a chance that they would blog or tweet or facebook like your website and thus generate backlink. Else you would have to work by yourself, in which case your audience won't be using internet either to reach your services.

You might want to check out David Mihm's site Mihmorandom. He's been working local seo as long as anyone and has some good info on the site.

One of his yearly articles is on local search ranking factors.
