Any idea on how I can improve my Google ranking?

Ok I am beginning to become a little disappointed with google. My PS3 website was rank #2 & #3 (switch up every few days) for the entire month of September (would like to note we came online in August). Then here comes October, I guess we aren't like for that month because then we drop to #6 and kept floating from #6-#12.

I post PlayStation 3 news before the rest of the websites. I admit I slack off on adding new previews but that's going to change, I just been busy. But there isn't another website that is being more updated than me. I have more news than majority of the PlayStation 3 websites out there. Yet our ranking is suffering. I didn't change my ingredients when I was #2 and #3 last month. I am doing the same thing.

What gets me is that out of nowhere, last week MaxPS3.com pops up and is #4. When just two weeks ago it wasn't even in top 20. I have never seen that website listed on Google in my life for the keyword PS3 until last week. It has a blog format which I guess is helping it out, but it shouldn't help them out that much. I think blogs should be treated the same as regular websites personally.

Another thing SmashMyPS3.com has past me up. I mean are you serious? This website has ZERO PlayStation 3 news and doesn't even get updated. But somehow someway, in two weeks their ranking kept increasing by the day. Now they're sitting at #9.

My website is PS3.net. I mention the keyword PS3 on my page more than any other site. So that can't possibly be the problem.

What more does Google want from me? I have a VERY key domain name, that alone should make me do good. I have news stories other websites don't even post and I have it posted before the rest. The only possible thing I can do is keep switching up the top stories and recent previews.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can improve? I am starting to get desperate and look into some SEO's companies and paying them to help increase my ranking, and never in my life did I think I would have to do that.

As you have only been online since august you have probably just dropped into the aging delay.

That could be it, but even if it is then why is MaxPS3.com and SmashMyPS3.com doing much better than me? I can understand MaxPS3 being rank on the second page or even being #9, but jumping out of nowhere to #4 is ridiculous. The site doesn't offer anything extra that the other PS3 sites do except for more advertisments. Swear I hate blogs!

because those site;

have been around longer;
are better optimised;
have more links;
have better quality links;
have more content;
have better quality content;
are not in the aging delay;
have just come out of the aging delay;
have not been affected by the current updates;
have been affected by the current updates;

Pick any combination of those,

Some things they don't have thaty you said they could have:

- are better optimised (with probably the exeception of two or three PS3 sites)
- have more links
- have more content
- have better quality links

Which leaves me with aging as a problem, but even so SmashMyPS3 is younger than my site, MaxPS3 I believe is either younger or slightly older, they're affiliated with my other PS3 website but I forgot when I accepted them. It couldn't have been before August so they're most likely younger than PS3.net.

I think the main thing is the current updates from Google. The thing with the shifting has been around, for the keyword PS3 it seems like only website since August has been getting shift around the way it has. Like the other websites are pretty consistent at where they're, which again can be due to them being establish longer than my website.

I'm still confused on why PS3World is still rank high when it hasn't been updated since 7-29-2004. PS3Land just started to update their website in September. Before then the website was updated since July (2 news post) and before that it June (1 news post), and before that it was March (3 news post). Two websites that are rarely kept updated, especially PS3World (been a year), can retain their positions and even move up higher (**** PS3Land.com was #1 for like 2 days last month) after all the shifting Google has done.

It is perfectly normal for a new site to rank highly when they are first indexed and often this is for very competitive phrases.

When and if sites were updated will make 0 difference for ranking, A couple of sites where the content hasn't changed in well over 3 years from when I originally did the site (Gets embarrasing when people come across them) are still ranking at the top of the SERP for the keyphrases. This is through all the updates that Google have done that made thousands of sites disappear into oblivion every time.
Moral: Make them work first off and you don't need this algo chasing crap of changing your site to keep up with Google.
