I hired someone that I thought was a good web-designer. I paid Network Solutions to guide me for several months to get the site up and positioned. They assured me that I had the right title, description and keywords. I ran several months worth of paid advertising.

www.usstrings.com -- is my site. It looks good to me. CityMax (my ISP / design site) says that I've had 20,000+ hits in 5 months. So far I've had one order for $40 that cost me $51 to fill.

I understand that I still have some work to do on the site - it can always be made better. But, ONE ORDER IN 5 MONTHS?

I now think that my source material may be wrong or ineffective; including key words, titles and description. I also need to know more about effective link sharing/swapping. Plus the site seems to load/run slow.

I'd be very grateful to find some answers. Also, I need someone to help me correct these things. I want this site to work - I've put lots of time, etc. into it.

Sincerely,

Hi lgc252,

what keyphrases are you targetting and are you sure people are searching for those phrases? If people are searching for them, how do you rank for them?

This must be the 4th forum I've seen this post. Has any advice given so far been of any use?

One of the problems that I see, and I may be wrong, but you're using an online website builder with CityMax. I checked your site and found that in place of the DOCTYPE your website has <!-- Goliath10 ---> instead. I used to have a hosting company that did this to me also. You had to input your keywords and phrases in a separate window, right? Not directly within your website? You could not attach your own style sheet, and so many more "can'ts" that it's almost impossible for anyone to find your website.

I don't think it was the designer's fault - he worked with what you had with your hosting company, which isn't much. He designed it, it's up to you to "get it out there" - unless, of course, you had some sort of deal with the designer.

You also don't have any METATAGS to speak of. No robots.txt file, nothing.

Perhaps it's the host?

Just an observation,

Hi lgc252,

I would advise you to study your traffic stats, if this is possible. If not you should. From analysing them you can track your sites progress and the releationship your site is developing with search engines and spiders.
Nice site and good luck.

check your page with other browser, Im using firefox and it seems your index page is too long w/o any content (unprofessional on my opinion).

Seperate your css on a .css file. CSS codes are unecessary to search engine robots.
*Build quality backlinks MSN only shows you only got 11 Backlinks which is very poor..

Study SEO and SEM or hire someone.

Good Luck

It doesn't sound like your having any lack of *total* visibility - 20,000 hits is significant.

The fact that it only generated 1 sale is the problem.

Maybe you should look at who is coming to your site, and from where (webstats). Also I would look at your target market, and if they are the ones visiting your site try and see why they are not buying. Prices? Not the desired products? payment restrictions? etc?

Unfortunetly there are lots of different possible reasons as to why your site is not generating any sales, but the more information you can get about your users the better you can track down the problem/problems.

A couple of things that I have noticed:

1. Go to http://www.widexl.com/remote/search-...-analyzer.html and use their METATAG analyzer. You will notice that their are some errors in your Title, Keywords and Description.

2. Go to http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/keyword-density/ and use their keyword density tool. You will see that your keywords are not getting picked up on your home page.

3. I have been in sales (direct sales) for over 10 years. There are a few things that you need to know about sales. #1 thing your customers will ask is what's in it for me. Your site although VERY aesthetically pleasing, it doesn't have much *sales* info.
In order to SELL you need the following:
i) Information - It must be brief, accurate and not mis leading.
ii) Benefits - You need to show a benefit to purchasing from YOU and a benefit to the product(s) you are trying to sell. You must sell the *sizzle* not the steak! For example, when selling a car you want to sell the customer what the car will do FOR THE CUSTOMER not how it will work. The customer doesn't care if the pistons move up and down causing small explosions inside the engine. The customer only cares that it is going to get them from point A to B and how comfortable it is while they are in it. YOUR product descriptions on your site are very descriptive but they don't sell the benefits. They are TELLING the features (not SELLING the benefits).
iii) You have to provide a compelling offer. You need to give them a reason to BUY NOW, you have

4. Another rule of sales - It's a numbers game! The more people in the door the more you will sell. If this fails then it is 1 of 2 problems. #1) You are trying to sell to the wrong person. Basically you are attracting the wrong type of traffic. As mentioned in some previous emails you should review your WEB STATS and see if people are typing in the search terms that you want. Also, where is your traffic coming from? Could you place an AD that you have in Google AdWords (including the search terms)? By reviewing your stats you should be able to see what *type* of people are getting to your site and what they are typing into the search engines. The other thing you should look for is how long are your vistors staying. If you are getting 20,000 vistors and 19,000 don't stay longer than 30 seconds or a couple of minutes then you have a problem and are probably attracting the wrong people. #2) If there is nothing wrong with the people that are getting to your site then you have to look at your conversion rate as a problem with your content. Either your content isn't informative enough to sell your products OR as I already mentioned... You don't have enough *sales* tatics on that site.

I hope you don't take this critism incorrectly, I'm trying to help. I have trained many people on sales. I would suggest that you start with reviewing your web stats. You are already getting a lot of vistors so see if they are the right type. The next thing I would do is get a Toll Free number and plaster all over your website. Some people just aren't comfortable placing orders on the internet and may just call an order in instead. Finally, the next thing I would do is add more *sales* tactics to your content on your pages and re-write the product descriptions to sell the benefits.

hope this helps!

Hiya All,

I am new to this site but I have already found some sound information. Thanks for the links Zincoxide they were really helpful. I analysed my site and found I had too many keywords, so now I can get it right before I get it wrong.

Really helpful.
