I am designing a site that will contain thousands of HTML or PHP pages. I want to develop a site map system to index them all for the search engines. Can anyone tell me how many URI's can go on one site map. I know that link pages should not see more than 80, but on my site map, the links are going to my own pages?

Thousands of HTML or PHP pages? Who has the time to create all that content? Sound like a SEO spammy technique.

Thanks for the quick response. But, wow... I thought I was working on a dating site where everyone gets their own page. I am very interested in if anyone knows anything about building a site map for my project. Thanks...

I don't think that it is necessary for all the pages of dating site to be indexed by search engines.
It will be enough to place only some important pages on your site map, IMHO
