That's what I thought you meant, but I wanted to make sure.
Yeah asking for links links is one way to get links for your site. You'll probably only have so much luck with it, but it is something you can do. All you'll really need to do is ask the other site and they'll probably just add the link, but you could have some code written for them that they can just add. Maybe:
US Strings
Guitar Strings
It's a good idea to vary the page you send people to and also the anchor text for the link. The anchor text in the examples above were US Strings and Guitar Stings. It's the text between the
Another way to get links is to submit your site to directories. I think there are some good directory lists in a thread here somewhere. Probably in several threads. You can also find more by searching for:
"your keywords" + directory
"your keywords" + "add url"
"your keywords" + "submit url"
"your keywords" + "add site"
"your keywords" + "submit site"
and similar searches. You can vary it a lot with different keywords and different ways to say add url. So for your site you might try:
"guitar strings" + "submit url"
"bass strings" + "add site"
The sites that are returned for the search should have a link letting you add your site. It's usually a form you fill out. I warn you though that it can be very tedious. When I do this I spend maybe an hour or two searching for new sites to add a link and then a few hours actually adding the links. Generally not on the same day. You might even just shoot for trying to add 20 links a month this way. It's slow going and some of the directories probably won't be worth all the much. It's one of the things where if you work at it consistently you'll see results over a longer period of time.
Other ways to add links faster would be writing an article and submitting it to free article directories. You'll be able to add a bio to the article with a link or two back to your site. The idea being that others can freely download the article and add it to their sites along with the link back to your site.
Sometimes it's also the quality of the link rather than the quantity of links that will give the most benefit. Taking the article idea if you could get an article (with links back to your site) on the site of one of the major guitar magazines like guitarplayer.com the links will weigh more than if they were on Joe's Guitar Site (even if Joe is a really good guy)
Link building is one of those never ending processes. You always want to be looking for new places to get a link for your site.
One thing you can do immediately is add a link to your site in your signature here. Then everytime you post there's another link. Your 100 link won't count as much as your first link, but some will count.
