Can anybody recommend the best website submitter tool? I have heard that some do not properly submit your url, and only register it on FFA sites, from which a lot of spam is received.

I have Submit Wolf from a free CD. Is this any good.

submitting is a pointless task, unless you have a fondness for spam.

Agree and agree. Submitting to search engines is pointless. Submitting to things like directories is best done manually.

Why do you say it is a waste of time submitting to search engines? I thought that was the most important thing a webmaster has to do in order to get hits?

I don't understand.

It's not necessary to submit a site to search engines to get it in their indices. All you have to do is get links from a page that is already getting spidered - the spider follows the link to your page and then your page gets spidered.

Submitting to search engines does nothing. Submitting to directories gets more links to your site which increases your chances of getting spidered (amongst other things).

I can't seem to find many directories. A lot of them charge. I am listed with DMOZ and Yahoo.

Anybody know of any more?

My 2 pennies - don't use automatic submission tools, it's a good way to get your site blacklisted on search engines. And like Chris said, lots of SPAM.

If you want rankings you need incoming links ... and more importantly, good quality ones. I have a client who has #1 listing on a variety of keywords simply by virtue of a few newspaper articles published online through some reputable papers...

It's hard to trick Google, you need quality content and genuine interest to get real rankings, no way around it!

Alan like a few people have mentioned you really don't need to submit your site to search engines in order for them to index your web pages. The best thing is just to get some links pointing to your site. If you add a link in your forum signature then every post here will be a link back to your site. I'm sure this site gets spidered often so it won't take long before the search engines are aware of your site.

I think someone has posted a list of directories here somewhere. There's probably a few threads with a list of them. A lot of memebers here have their own directories and are always looking for submissions in the Submit To My Directory forums.

You can also find them through search engines. Try searching for thing like:

"your keywords" + directory
"your keywords" + "add url"
"your keywords" + "submit url"
"your keywords" + "add site"
"your keywords" + "submit site"

and other similar searches.

I agree. I have seen sites rankings drop because of submitting. Let the search engines find your site through backlinks on other sites. This is the best way and will eliminate some of the time you have to wait for your site to be found in the submission list.

It's amazing the amount of folks still looking for "quick fixes" - building and running a web site requires time and effort.

The best way to get your sites into the search engines and directories is manual submission. Take your time and acurately represent your sites theme and content, this may be time consuming but in the long run automatic submitters will only get you blacklisted.

Manual submission to SEs is not needed, only to directories.
