Can somebody guide me why different search engines shows different "link populartiy" for a website.

If 25 websites link to my website why don't all search engines shows the same "link popularity" of my website. Can anybody explain the reason.

Hi Vijay!
Well vijay I would rather say all search engine like google , yahoo, AltaVista, MSN ect. have their own Algorithm. Their spiders crawl on your website accordingly. This is the main reason behind different search engines shows different "link populartiy" for a website.

They may not all know about every link you have too. Each search engine will need to spider those other sites to find your links and they may not have found all of them at a given time. Google never shows all the links they know about. They only show a small random sample of links. Yahoo tends to be the most accurate in showing all your links.

The search engines will never though all show the same amount of links for your pages and site. Its not anything worth worrying about. What they show you and what the know about aren't necessarily the same thing.

Some Search Engines don't index ALL the pages which have your 25 links on it, therefore they are not the same.

Then they rank the page differently than all other Search Engines, so they might not give the same value for all Search Engines (this isn't relevant, but I thought you should know)

Google doesn't display all of it's BackLinks just because they don't want to display their private PR in the toolbar. You would have to wait until the backlink update for that and even then a few backlinks might not show because:

They are banned from Google
Wasn't indexed by Google

Even then for some reason they keep it private for a few because Google only displays your top Backlinks, those which help your ranking and are relevant.

No they don't. They display a random selection and usually they are from the most obscure PPC scraper sites

Chirs is right. I think there was a time when Google would only show backlinks for PR4 or better sites, but now they just show a random sample. I think they want to keep all of us webmasters and seos from reverse engineering anything we can and would.

My experience says that google shows only good ranking (good pr,good traffic etc...) sites or directory links.

Nope just a random sample of links.
