I would like some info about why google sometimes provides 2 pages for the Kw. I havea site that is #1 & #2 for a KW , the second result is the actual page relating to the KW and the #1 is the home page - why do they do this ??

eg

Kw : Red Widgets
#1 result is home page of widget shop
#2 result is page of red widget

surely #2 is more relevant to the kw ??

Depends on the keywords used in the search and how you've optimized as to which is more relevant. I think I'd just be happy they show both pages at #1 and #2. Sites that can get pages in the top two spots usually get a good click through on the links.

The reason the home page shows first is probably because it has more links pointing to it than the interior page. The interior page also may not be optimized as well as you might think in relation to the home page.

If you post the links to the pages in question and the keywords for which this is happening I'll look a little more and see if I can offer more specifics.

It simply means that the algo has determined that both pages are equally relevant to the query.

As vangogh says, it could be different aspects of the algo that have determined the equality.

The whole point of Google is to provide relevant websites to your query and if both of them are relevant, users shouldn't have to click on "More from this Site" to view pages from the top listings..

Jeff, are you referring to indented results? I've wondered about that too. There's an explanation I found that may help: Google Help : Search Results Page
