Add fresh content regularly, submit your site to directories and build incoming links to your site. A properly structured SEO campaign increases site's visibility and boosts it's ability to be found by searchers seeking the products or services offered by the site.

Tom, you've already gotten some good advice. Sadly there is no step by step process to ranking well. What will work for my site might not work for yours. There's a lot of art to the seo process. For a general step-by-step I would suggest.

1. Keyword research
2. Build a good site for both human beings and search spiders
3. Optimize your pages without over optimizing them
4. Build quailtiy backlinks to your site

And continue to do all of the above for as long as your site exists. Maybe you don't need to continue to optimize your pages forever, but you should always be researching keywords, building content, and building backlinks.

Well, thats the same problem I'm facing, dude !! The first and most important(as I know it) thing is; never submit to search engines, let them find u. For that, put your link in a page with pretty high pagerank and relancy to your content. You should be already knowing that pagerank is the measure of how often u get indexed. So, if u're in a high pageranked page, search engines crawl u fast and find u. The other steps are as vangogh said. And, while optimizing, I hope the link below would help u.

And, when I talk about quality content, I should particularly highlight vangogh and his site, I wonder how he posts this much high quality articles. Vangogh, are you a full time marketteer ? Or, if there's any other secret to it, pls{I'm begging u} tell me bcuz I'm drying up of quality posts.
