Hi all

I am researching on some keywords for my site with WEB CEO. However, some of the keywords that I want to bid has around 160,000 competitors and some has none according to WebCEO.

What i want to know is, should i just go and bid for high competitor ones or choose the ones has non/very little.

Also want to find out if 160,000 comp. is too high, as I see some keywords has millions of competitors.

(Of course the ones with very little amonth of competitors has less than 10 or non Daily word searches)

I think choosing keywords has a bit of art to it. You're right that the highly competitve keywords are the ones that get the most searches. That's why they end up with so much competition.

What you should be looking for is keyphrases that will convert best and lead to actual sales of leads or whatever it is you want someone to do on your site. You should be able to figure out a few on your own, but ultimately it will require trying some and measuring the results you get.

Keep bidding on the phrases that work and replace the ones that don't with some different phrases and measure again.

Ok sorry. It is not PPC campaigns. It is competing for the keywords for the search engines.

PPC or not, everything I mentioned above still applies. You'll just be measuring things differently. Try to find the keywords that will best convert into sales. It won't matter if 10,000 people visit your site if they all leave without doing what you want.

Having 10 visitors, 5 of which buy something is better than 10,000 visitors who all leave.

Don't think about keywords only in terms of traffic. Think about keywords as which will best lead to what you want to happen after a visitor arrives on your site.

On a side note, WCEO uses the TOTAL search results for G. Lately there is some conjecture if this is REAL competition.

So, I like to search;

Keyphrase

“Keyphrase”

intitle: keyphrase

inurl: keyphrase

We can safely assume that the INURL and INTILE results will more closely reflect those actually TARGETING your terms and the process of looking at all FOUR results will help present a better picture ot TRUE competition, for what it is.

The Web CEO data should be taken with a grain of salt

Agreed. I think all data from seo software should be taken with a grain of salt. There is an art to choosing keywords much like everything about seo. It's not all cut and dry.

Totaly agree with Vangoh and Gipsy. Of course I don't want visitors to come to my site for few seconds and go. Therefore I mostly bid on phrases instead of keywords.
