I am phone/video-chat niche entertainer. I have 3 sites. Each one per niche. I won't go into detail as I understand this is a family forum. I recently found out that people have not been buying ( - ) domains. I went ahead and bought $200 worth of them. I will give a PG example: www.foot-stockings.com www.phone-video.com www.goodboys-fuzzyropes.com Each side of that dash is a CORE key word. I have a service I provide in each keyword. Okay, I have 34 domains with core keywords in them. This is the approach I plan to take. If you feel my approach is "trickery" or overkill please feel free to critque. I just spent the past day uploading wordpress to each domain so like 32 times I have /foot-stockings.com/blog I plan on adding info on that "keyword" occationally. Was my approach overkill? Could I have just one domain like www.thisisme.com.com and put www.thisisme.com/happyfeet www.thisisme.com/phone .... you get the idea.
I sat and installed wordpress 32 times and dedicated a keyword to its site. I plan on sitting and submitting each one as its own site BUT linking my village all to the mother ship, my site. Am I strung out? or just asseritive?

Seen your other post and figured you had asked this question first...

My suggestion is to have one site if you are doing this for SEO purposees. One great site is going to perform better than a lot of little sites...

Is it a overkill ? hmm.... looks like so. How do you propose to devote time to all these separate sites?

On the other hand, if you can devote time , then it might be a good idea to move ahead with all these sites.

Also, it could be a bad idea to link all your sites to your main site, or do cross linking. Search engines do not favor such tactics.

The perception here is that a keyword in the domain name is worth something. IT IS NOT.

A web site that is going to sell pet puppies isn't going to rank any better for www.pet-puppies.com than it will for www.fat-rat-babies.com, even if someone is searching for " pet puppies" ...

It may provide some value for branding but that is it. To have 21 sites to promote your products is a very poor idea. It is not going to accomplish what you are attempting to accomplish..! Not going to happen.!!

*Quality* ibl's (inbound links,) and quality content that uses keywords in natural speech- These are what will get better results in the serps (search engine results pages.)

Testing has proved that keywords in domain names provide 0.00% advantage...

the general rule is to work on one site and create separate pages optimizing for each keyword.

I work this way aswell and each of my sites have a pyramid of 10-15 sites supporting the main site.

Some one said keyword in domain name doesnt help is plain crap. I have tried and est it myself and I speak from first hand experiences.

If your main domain sint doing very well for a particular keyword yes thrown in a new domain with the keyword in the domain name and have a blog on it may be one post a week will do the trick and yessss IT WILL HELP YOUR MAIN DOMAIN TO RANK WELL.

If you want an honest suggestion I would say you are doing the right thing if you got some guy working for you but if this is a one man show then its a bit too much to keep up with coz you need good back links for all the domains you have for them to rank well and a lot of content to keep updating.

I have a small office in India at Newdelhi with 4pc's and a internet connection wher 3 guys work 8 hours a day 5 days a week and all they do is write articles all day long and do directory submissions for every new domain I set up.

For those who dont agree I would like to ask why do normally people set up new blogs on blogspot or wordpress to support thier main domains?

BSNL, I'm not sure I'm following the argument about blogs and domains. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing. I'm just not following what adding a blog has to do with using keywords and dashes in a domain.

Where keywords can help the most in a domain is in backlinks. When someone links to your site there's a good chance they'll use your URL or domain name and if you have keywords in there you get keyword rich anchor text back to the site.

The main reason not to go for the dashes is that many people won't remember to place them there which makes it harder to tell someone your domain and have them type it correctly. However as you can see from the domain of this forum dashes are used successfully in domains.

However if using dashes you want to limit how many. keyword1-keyword2 is perfectly fine.

keyword1-keyword2-keyword3 is already pushing it a little, but is probably acceptable.

keyword1-keyword2-keyword3-keyword4-keyword5-keyword6 in your domain will likely be seen as spam by a search engine. There's no good reason to use that many dashes unles you're trying to manipulate ranking.

I think you're always best not to use dashes or limit it to one dash in your domain to make it easier for people to remember and type. You can probably get away with two dashes, but adding dashes beyond that is more likely to flag a spam filter than to provide benefit from the keywords.
