I know what your thinking; "OMG mad_willsy has ventured out of the php forum" but...

I've noticed webmaster-talk has PR of 7 (aparently due to good SEO)

I was PR 5 and as my visitors have gone UP my PR has gone down :S

I'm now at 3 and don't want some worthless rank!

What are the top tips for a newbie?

1) Don't sweat PR. If your traffic is going up, that's all that matters...as long as you have at least 1 to show you're not banned.

The oversimplified explanation is that PR is a calculation based on a top and bottom end, and as that top and bottom end, so too does your PR.

I agree, don't worry about the PR thing. Ofcourse everyone wants the highest PR possible but at the end of the day getting visitors is whats important. If they're going up then your doing something right

It's not only that, look at graph attached! Visitors dropped. That was the point when my PR went from 5 to 4 and also the point google kicked me off adsense for 'false clicks' I knew nothing about; at the point when I had $99! Then I apealed and my PR dropped to 3 so I shut up! From then as you can see visitors is on the way up, but not to the peak it was at before!

Just try to build lots of quality links and your PR and SERPS both would improve.
