Hey All,

Tim gave me permission to post what will essentially be a rather self serving thread. I hope no one minds and I promise it will be temporary.

I'm basically asking people to click on the following link, which will take you to an article I wrote:

SEO is Nothing but Karma

I promise nothing bad will happen and it's not a affilate link.

I entered a contest at Marketing Pilgrim for what they're calling a search marketing scholarship. The judges are a who's who from the search engine marketing world.

I entered by submitting an article and the first round of the contest is to get as many unique views on the article as possible this week. I think it will end on Sunday Nov 5th, though it may still be going on into the morning of the 6th.

The article is a bit tongue-in-cheek though many who've given me feedback say it's less tongue-in-cheek than I thought. Most people have told me they've liked it and found it useful, but I really wouldn't expect people to be telling me it's bad.

The article is about karma in the sense of doing good things for people and it really helping you in your SEO efforts. Sounds crazy, but I believe it's true and I hope you'll all read the article to find out for yourselves.

I'd appreciate if everyone would click on the link and view the page so I can survive until round two where the judges will read each of the four weekly winner's articles and decide who wins.

For anyonw who would like the url is:

http://www.marketingpilgrim.com/2006...but-karma.html

Feel free to post it anywhere and direct more people to the article or to the link. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell anyone you want, but have them visit the page.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate it and if I do win I think you all know I'll be happy to share anything I learn.

Thanks again,
Steve

Thanks Sreejith. Glad you liked the article. I do believe in Karma, though I do know this isn't really spiritual karma, but a westernized version of it.

I think the way forward in SEO is going to be a more holisitc approach to things and less focus on the algorithm. The algorithm is always going to be there and will always be important. We'll still all need to write good page titles and do our research about which keywords to target.

But real success is going to become far more dependent on creating valuable content, making social contacts, and just being a good citizen online.

Do good things.

Brad is right bcuz I'm getting a slow but steady increase in traffic to my new site since I started putting high quality targetted content in it. I didnt do that much of SEO on it. I did some HO(human optimisation), lol. But, anyway, just wanna say it works for me but, u know, it takes a lot of time. Maybe a lifetime but the results are convincing.

I think it all starts from creating quality content. If you don't have something at your site that people want then it's really not worth linking to. And even if you could get traffic to the site people would just leave.

A update on the contest. Sadly for me I didn't win this round so I'm out of the final round. The judges should now be deciding which of the four weekly winners will be the overall winner. For anyone who would like to know who wins the whole contest and who were each of the weekly winners or even just want to read all the entries you can find everything at:

http://www.marketingpilgrim.com/sear...g-scholarship/

While I didn't make it past the first round I did enjoy partcipating and learned a few things during the experience. I'm ready for the next time should there be a next time.

It just holds true at the end that if you make a website for the people that read/uses it, then they will gladly help you right back with links, traffic, converstions, etc.

For anyone who's interested the overall winner of the contest was announced this morning.

http://www.marketingpilgrim.com/2006...ip-winner.html

It's a good article and worth a read.

You can also see how everyone did. I may not have driven the most traffic to my article during the week I entered, but I did a pretty good job overall and am happy with the results.

Glad you liked the article Duncan. And thanks for readng my blog Sreejith. I did learn a lot and obviouly didn't do a few things I probably should have. The winner of the contest deserved to win though. The artice was really good and he got far more unique views on his page than anyone else through all 4 weeks of the contest.

I think I did pretty good though for my first attempt at one of these contests.
