Thanks for all the love. The karma I was talking about isn't really the true meaning of spiritual Karma. I wouln't know enough about that, but karma's over time gained the meaning that if you do good things then good things will happen to you.
I think it's true. To me a big part of SEO is building a social network that can help you when you need it. But to build those networks you need to treat the people in the network pretty good.
If you want to get the most out of a forum like this one the best way to do that is to become part of the community. The more you give to the community the more it's likely to give back to you. I know I'm much more willing to do a favor for a friend than I am for a stranger. And some people have been so good to me that I'll help them in anything without asking questions.
I think karma plays a part in optimization mostly by staying away from all the spam tactics. Look around and most algorithm updates at Google over the last couple of years seem to clearly be about combating spam in one way or another. Don't spam and instead practice good linking strategies and Google will probably reward you somehow.
On the page if you stuff keywords everywhere you'll probably get caught and trigger some spam filter at a search engine. Again Google seems to like pages that are written naturally. If you're targeting the word 'car' you should also uses words like 'auto' and 'automobile' on your page. You'd probably want to mention words like 'enigne,' '5 speed,' 'tires,' you get the idea. You'll probably rank better for the keyword 'car' if you do, but you'll also rank better for all thise associated car terms. And since you're writing naturally it's good for the people who are reading the words and they'll be more likely to click on more pages or buy a car from you.
You do a good thing like writing a page that someone can find useful and they'll link to it because it is useful.
And on and on. You certainly have to do more than being good to people to succeed, but there are lots of benefits to practicing good karma.
