It only counts as duplicate meta if you clone the meta using automated software. Manual cloning of meta by hand, the old-fashioned way, just like our forefathers used to do it back in 1996, is perfectly acceptable. Anything else violates search engine guidelines.
Cross-pollination of meta is acceptable, provided you keep in mind that meta is case-sensitive and that uppercase meta doesn't get along very well with lowercase meta. This form of discrimination is what led to the great Meta Tag War of June 30, 1998. What a dark day that was.
SO MANY METAS LOST FOR NO GOOD REASON. OH THE HUMANITY!
That's why every June 30, I wear an Ethernet wire in bolo-tie form around my neck.
