i want to know how much meta is neededin a website to get top ranking in google , yahoo , msn etc

I usually start with a full 2 gallon bucket if it's a new site. obviously if you buy meta in large quantities you'll get it cheaper. I think I saw meta sold by the meter on ebay but I've never used it that way.

You don't give much information about the type of meta you are looking for, maybe surplus or even recycled meta would be ok for you, I've used recycled meta before and it's really quit good.

A word of warning though if you do get some meta for your site make sure you tag it because if you don't anyone can just download it and that would be bad.

Maybe someone on this forum has some spare that they can give you...?

I am confused is this about meta as in keywords and descriptions or whatever else sandbox is talking about?

What?

Simple put, Meta Tags (keyword, description, ..) are mainly useful for MSN. Google and Yahoo don't value them nearly as much anymore.

However they don't hurt to use.

A good description can convince an online surfer to choose your website over another (in the search engine result) but most SEs don't rank websites based on the Tags anymore.

I agree to that blacksburgpoker. Use anything that will not hurt you and will actually help your sites position. Theres no harm on trying.

Meta Tags plays major role in your site.
so be sure that your meta tags tell about your product.

One more thing it should be in this manner

Primary {Keyword1}-Secondary {Keyword2}

This is solid advice.

You can sometimes get volume discounts on meta if you look on places such as eBay. Often times you can avoid the whole bidding process and buy meta outright at up to 50% off the suggested retail price.

You may also want to look at meta exchanges, where you trade your meta with other people's meta so that you can rank under their meta as well as your own.

And let's not forget cloning meta. Cloning meta is the best way to get more meta onto your site at little additional cost.

Although SEs no longer give too much importance to meta tags, they are still useful tags on your pages. They are specifically for maybe a site’s internal search engine to index its own content or are used by specialized search engines.

Well it’s true that major search engines hardly use meta tags, but there are several other small engines that still use them. IMO there is no harm in using meta tags at all. By the way which meta tags you are planning to use?

I think pawansir has left the building; which is a pity because I wanted to talk more about meta. Did you know you can rearrange the letters to make 'mate' or 'meat' or 'etma' which is Dutch for 'hand signal' or 'gesture' I think?

Oh Adam, nice idea to clone your meta but would you not get penalised for duplicate meta? I'm going to cross pollinate two different strains of meta plant that I have in the greenhouse and hopefully grow a new variety...I just have to transplant the marijuana first.

It only counts as duplicate meta if you clone the meta using automated software. Manual cloning of meta by hand, the old-fashioned way, just like our forefathers used to do it back in 1996, is perfectly acceptable. Anything else violates search engine guidelines.

Cross-pollination of meta is acceptable, provided you keep in mind that meta is case-sensitive and that uppercase meta doesn't get along very well with lowercase meta. This form of discrimination is what led to the great Meta Tag War of June 30, 1998. What a dark day that was.

SO MANY METAS LOST FOR NO GOOD REASON. OH THE HUMANITY!

That's why every June 30, I wear an Ethernet wire in bolo-tie form around my neck.

meta tags are not that important nowadays but it still helps your site...do anything that can help there's no harm on trying...
