They say backlinks has been no use of increasing site now, So my workmate told me not to exchange link any more. What do you think ?

ya men its true
in new google algo they have just mention that they are not going to consider
reciprocal links
they just going to count only one way links only
just keep in mind that informatioin is on google's aurthorized blogsopt
backlink is not harmful
but riciprocal lin exchange or to buy and see links is harmful

I don't think that that will be harmful. They are outside factors and nobody can't prevent it.

i don't think it is harmful though IMO it is good to have one way links rather than reciprocal links...

It's quite simple

LINK EXCHANGE FOR THE RIGHT REASONS That way you can't be wrong and search engine benefit is NOT the right reason.

Backlinks should be gathered and given because they're deserved and of benefit to site users. Any other reason may work in the short run, but not in the long run.

In other words, you give a backlink because another site is worthy of it, and you get a backlink because your site is worthy of it.

backlinks in volume have NEVER been as important as many think, now the anchor text of backlinks is a totally different story.

Reciprocal linking is just about PR as far as I know. Back in the days, any guy who wants to link would see the PR first. PR itself isn't that important these days. So, why would reciprocal linking be of any use. But, I do accidently do reciprocal linking when writing post. They might've linked to me and I may link to them.

Reciprocal linking is NOT just about PR. and never should be. Only the short sighted linking frenzy idiots made any kind of linking about PR.

This stupidity about 3 (or more) way linking being "better" or one way links being better is all just garbage.

Surely you mean naturally linking to other sites.
why there is this stupidity in thinking that somehow linking to other sites that may then link back is somehow "dangerous" is just totally beyond me.

Inbound links (One-way OR Relevent Recip) are still the highest ranking factor, but as Chris said above, it is the anchor text of the links that plays the most significant part of the link towards better rankings.

Backlinks is the backbone of google, and much of their algorithm depends on backlinks. You just have to focus on quality too, so you don't get flagged as a low quality site.
Try to get an idea that will get people returning to your site often and adding content, such as a forum or directory.

i still think that link exchanges are good, especially for the site visitors. they aren't harmful but be sure to link on relevant site to yours.

Reciprocal links does not mean that you have to have a mini site directory. It is useless to have such one. And may SEs think of your site as link farm. But mutual linking is different from reciprocal links. Many authority sites link back to each other in "natural" way. It will help you in your sites SERPs.

Backlinks are still very important but having a page filled with popular search queries is much better for getting traffic than anything else.
